Newsletter #1

Did you know that the first ever thing bought and sold over the Internet was a bag of cannabis in 1971?

Speaking of the Internet, what’s the last time you unplugged?  Our newest product, the Katana Bamboo Bong, was crafted to address the problem of glass bongs constantly breaking and to bring us closer together by creating a sense of community. Our 16-inch bong utilizes bamboo, a raw, fast-growing, and eco-friendly material, and longan wood to craft the downstem and leaf bowl. Our aspiration at Terratokes is to form a community dedicated to exploring the planet and smoking in an environmentally friendly way.

Our newsletter is aimed at helping you maximize your cannabis experience!

Cleaning Tip of the Day

Did you know that you don’t need to spend money on commercial bong cleaners? Lemon juice contains citric acid, which is a natural solvent that works to effectively dissolve resin and grime without the need for harsh chemicals. Lemon juice not only leaves behind a fresh, citrusy taste, but its natural flavor will complement the smoke from the dry herb you’re enjoying.

Simply add lemon juice and salt to your Katana bong to start the cleaning process. Salt will act as an abrasive to fight against stuck-on resin and grime while the lemon juice will cut through any buildup impacting the cleanliness of your bong. Cover all holes, shake, and rinse thoroughly with warm water!

Edible Recipe: The Wake and Bake Series!

For those of you who are a fan of a wake-and-bake but despise the mid-day crash, we recommend making your own cannabis-infused coconut oil to add to fruit and smoothie bowls to jumpstart your morning!

To Make Cannabis Coconut Oil:

Cannabis compounds like cannabinoids are lipid soluble and bind to fats. Any form of oil, fat, or butter will make a wonderful cannabis infusion, but coconut oil is likely the tastiest to add to fresh fruit breakfasts. Coconut oil also has an abundance of fatty acids that make it an ideal healthy choice of oil.

~Materials:

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Oven
  • Saucepan, stock pot, double-boiler, or slow cooker
  • Mesh strainer or cheesecloth
  • Container for cannabis oil
  • Cannabis grinder (optional)

~Ingredients:

It’s recommended to use a 1:1 ratio of cannabis to coconut oil. For a milder effect, you can simply use less cannabis.

~Directions:

  1. Decarb the cannabis: Decarboxylation activates cannabis by turning THCA in the plant into THC, the psychoactive compound that will get you high. Loosely break up cannabis and place it on parchment paper on a baking sheet. Heat it for 30-40 minutes in an oven at 245ºF.
  2. Grind or break down cannabis: A grinder will break your weed up into an even consistency, but you can just as easily use your hands too. Keep in mind that anything small enough to fit through a strainer will end up in your finished product, so don’t grind your cannabis into a fine powder.
  3. Heat oil and decarbed cannabis: Add oil and decarbed cannabis to double-boiler, slow cooker, or saucepan, and simmer on low for 2-3 hours. Make sure the temperature of the oil stays between 160-200ºF.
  4. Strain and store the oil: Put a mesh strainer or cheesecloth over container for oil and pour the oil/cannabis mixture through it. Do not squeeze it out—this will add more chlorophyll to your oil and make it taste more vegetal. Discard the plant material. The oil will have a shelf life of at least two months and can be extended with refrigeration.

A big shoutout to Leafly for the recipe!

Dry Herb Strains to Try with The Katana

~Strawberry Champagne: A hybrid strain that crosses Strawberry Cough and Champagne Kush, this strain is fruity, sweet, and a tad earthy. As uplifting as caffeine, this strain leaves the consumer with notes of fresh berries and bubbly champagne on the pallet!

~Gorilla Breath: Bred originally by Humboldt Seed Organization, gorilla breath crosses Original Glue with OGKB to produce a strong hybrid strain. Heavy on the nose and with a strong “OG aroma,” gorilla breath has been said to have notes of pine, diesel, and chocolate. This hearty strain is perfect for the experienced cannabis user who is ready to enjoy the tingly aftereffects.

~Divinity 35: A unique hybrid weed strain crafted from two unknown strains crossing, divinity 35 is your class 50-50 hybrid. It’s notes are woody, earthy, and piney, perfect for complementing the aged flavor that you enjoy with the Katana bong!
